Brave New Hopf Algebroids and the Adams Spectral Sequence for R-modules

چکیده
This note is intended to draw attention to some phenomena arising naturally within the framework of brave new ring spectra which has recently been constructed by May et al [5]. Actually, our first contact with the algebraic aspects was in the framework of Robinson’s theory of A∞ ring spectra [2, 3], however their most natural interpretation seems to be within the commutative theory. Since writing this document, we became aware of recent work of A. Lazarev [6] in which similar algebra plays a part, see also [4].

On the Adams Spectral Sequence for R-modules
We consider the Adams Spectral Sequence for R-modules based on commutative localized regular quotient ring spectra of a commutative S-algebra R in the sense of Elmendorf, Kriz, Mandell, May and Strickland. The formulation of this spectral sequence is similar to the classical case, and we reduce to algebra involving the cohomology of certain ‘brave new Hopf algebroids’ E ∗ E. In order to work ou...
متن کاملROOTS OF UNITY AND THE ADAMS-NOVIKOV SPECTRAL SEQUENCE FOR FORMAL yl-MODULES
The cohomology of a Hopf algebroid related to the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence for formal ,4-modules is studied in the special case in which A is the ring of integers in the field obtained by adjoining pth roots of unity to Qp , the p-adic numbers. Information about these cohomology groups is used to give new proofs of results about the E2 term of the Adams spectral sequence based on 2-local...
متن کاملA new family in the stable homotopy groups of spheres
Let $p$ be a prime number greater than three. In this paper, we prove the existence of a new family of homotopy elements in the stable homotopy groups of spheres $pi_{ast}(S)$ which is represented by $h_nh_mtilde{beta}_{s+2}in {rm Ext}_A^{s+4, q[p^n+p^m+(s+2)p+(s+1)]+s}(mathbb{Z}_p,mathbb{Z}_p)$ up to nonzero scalar in the Adams spectral sequence, where $ngeq m+2>5$, $0leq sExt}_A^{s+2,q[(s+2)p...
متن کاملL-complete Hopf Algebroids and Their Comodules
We investigate Hopf algebroids in the category of L-complete modules over a commutative Noetherian regular complete local ring. The main examples of interest in algebraic topology are the Hopf algebroids associated to Lubin-Tate spectra in the K(n)-local stable homotopy category, and we show that these have Landweber filtrations for all finitely generated discrete modules. Along the way we inve...
متن کاملOn the Cohomology of Some Hopf Algebroids and Hattori-stong Theorems
We apply group cohomological methods to calculate the cohomol-ogy of K(n) BP as a K(n) K(n)-comodule, recovering recent results of Hovey and Sadofsky. As applications we determine the Chromatic Spectral Sequence for BP based on Johnson and Wilson's E(n), showing the relationship to some generalizations of the classical Hattori-Stong Theorem and determine the change of Hopf algebroid spectral se...
